Cable, chain and rigging built for the forest
Hard-wearing cable, chain, forestry fittings and firefighting equipment for harvesting, hauling and fire protection.
Cable, chain and chokers for harvesting and yarding
Forestry harvesting in the Outeniqua and Tsitsikamma plantations puts cable yarders, skidders and feller-bunchers onto wire rope and chain that takes the kind of abuse no other sector throws at lifting gear. Mainline and haulback wire for cable yarding operations, choker chain in the diameters that match the working winch, skidder rigging, mainline-haulback combinations sized for the slope and the harvest – stocked at Mossel Bay in the constructions that actually survive a wet South Cape winter. Tough, fibre-core or IWRC depending on whether the duty cycle is bend-and-coil on a drum or straight-pull through a block.
Forestry fittings – the small parts a yarder lives or dies on
The small fittings are where most yarding callouts come from – chokers that wear through, butt-hooks that fatigue, blocks that need new wire rope reeved through, mainline thimbles that don't survive a season's wear. The stocked range covers the forestry-specific fittings that aren't always carried by general rigging suppliers: choker bell hooks, mainline carriages, ferrules, the swivels and shackles that take the offset loading characteristic of yarding rigs. Most of it is on the rack at 60 Bland Street and out the door the same week.
Firefighting kit for the Garden Route fire season
Firefighting equipment sits inside the forestry category for a reason – the Garden Route's summer fire risk runs from December through April, and plantation operations carry their own firefighting capability on top of whatever the municipal services bring. Stocked firefighting hardware (hose, fittings, branchpipes, beaters, rake-hoes), plus the PPE side (Nomex jackets, fire-rated gloves and helmets, full breathing apparatus through the affiliate supply network) means a plantation operation can equip a fire crew from the same supplier that supplies the rigging gear that runs the harvest. Plantation owners in the Mossel Bay, George and Knysna areas typically place the seasonal restock order in late October so the gear is staged ahead of the fire season; same-week supply applies to in-stock items, with custom hose-and-fitting kits assembled to the operation's specification.
