Built for offshore and onshore energy operations

Oil and gas operations run on a thin margin for rigging failure – the equipment specification, the test regime and the documentation trail all have to hold up. Afrishore supplies the lifting and rigging gear that gets onto rigs, into refineries and onto support vessels: IWRC steel wire rope sized for crane hoisting and drilling, Grade 80 chain for sustained dynamic loads, wire rope and chain slings made up with the swaged ferrules or sockets the application demands, plus the lashing and tie-down hardware that keeps cargo and tooling restrained in transit. Drawn from racked stock at the Mossel Bay hub and made up to spec in the workshop with the proof load test certificate fitted to the asset.

DNV 2.7-1 certified offshore lifting frame mid-lift, containing a coiled flexible riser hose – the heavier offshore certification regime Afrishore supplies and tests rigging equipment to.

Working to the standards offshore demands

The certification regime for offshore lifting is heavier than general industry. We work to SANS 10307 (Safe Use of Lifting Equipment), ISO 4309 (Wire Rope Inspection), EN 13414 for steel wire rope slings and EN 818 for short-link chain – under the umbrella of the LEEA Code of Practice, with full LEEASA membership (Lifting Equipment Engineering Association of South Africa) confirming us as a competent supplier in the local market. Where customer specs add DROPS (Dropped Object Prevention Scheme) requirements for offshore deployment, the assembly is built and tagged to that brief. Every sling and shackle leaves the hub with a current proof-test record and the load tag fitted; six-monthly inspections and annual re-certification are handled by the on-site test crew so the asset's certification status doesn't lapse mid-campaign.

Mossel Bay as the South Coast base for energy work

Mossel Bay's place in South Africa's energy sector – historically PetroSA's GTL refinery, the offshore gas fields and the supply-vessel work that feeds them – makes the harbour and the surrounding industrial corridor a natural base for oil and gas rigging supply. The 60 Bland Street hub is inside the standard delivery footprint for all major South African ports such as Saldanha, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Coega and Durban, and the on-site load-test crew is dispatched on a job-by-job basis to refineries, fabrication yards and offshore support facilities further afield in South Africa.
