Wire Rope Slings · Mossel Bay

Wire rope slings are made up in the Afrishore Mossel Bay workshop in single-leg, two-leg and four-leg configurations – sized to the safe working load (SWL) the job actually demands, terminated with eyes or sockets, and proof load tested before they leave the hub. Used across oil & gas, fishing & marine and heavy industrial lifting.

Every wire rope sling Afrishore manufactures starts with the right rope spec for the job – IWRC for high-load lifting and crushing-resistant duties, fibre-core where flexibility matters. The rope is cut to length, eyes or sockets are formed using swaged ferrules or hand-spliced terminations, and master links / hooks are fitted to the leg configuration the application requires.

Before any sling leaves the workshop it's proof load tested to twice its safe working load on the bench rig, a load-tag is fitted carrying the SWL, identification number and test date, and a certificate is issued. The whole process – from rope on the shelf to tagged sling – is normally same-day for stocked configurations.

Slings are made up for everyone from independent rigging contractors loading containers in Mossel Bay to oil & gas operators specifying lifting tackle for offshore platforms. Custom configurations – different leg lengths, mixed-rope-spec slings, soft-eyes for delicate loads – are quoted on application.

Wire Rope Slings FAQ

Wire Rope Slings in Mossel Bay, answered.

Where can I buy proof-tested wire rope slings in Mossel Bay?

Wire rope slings are manufactured and proof load tested in the Afrishore Lifting & Rigging workshop at 60 Bland Street, Mossel Bay. Same-day on stocked configurations; custom leg configurations are quoted on application.

What's the difference between a one-leg and a two-leg sling?

A one-leg sling is a single rope with eyes or terminations at each end – used for direct lifts. A two-leg sling has two ropes converging to a master link, used to lift loads from two attachment points. Two-leg slings reduce the working load capacity of each leg as the angle between them widens – the load tag on each Afrishore sling shows the rated capacity at 0°, 45° and 60° leg angles.

How often should wire rope slings be inspected?

General industry practice is six-monthly visual inspection of every sling in service, plus annual proof load re-certification. Afrishore offers both – on-site for fleet operators or off-site at the Mossel Bay workshop. Slings that fail visual inspection are retired and replaced rather than repaired.

Can I order custom-length wire rope slings?

Yes. Specify the SWL, leg length(s), termination type and any specific hook / master link requirement on the quote and the sling is built and tested to spec. Standard lead time for non-stock configurations is typically same-week.
