Steel Wire Rope · Mossel Bay

Steel wire rope is the backbone of every load-rated lifting system. Afrishore Lifting & Rigging stocks both IWRC (Independent Wire Rope Core) and fibre-core constructions at the Mossel Bay hub – supplied by the metre, terminated to spec, and proof load tested where the application demands it. Sized for oil & gas drilling, agricultural tensioning, forestry winching and general lifting.

IWRC steel wire rope is built with a wire rope core wrapped by the outer strands, giving high strength, low stretch and resistance to crushing – the construction of choice for offshore lifting, crane hoisting, drilling and any duty where the rope sees heavy radial load or high tension. Stocked at Afrishore Mossel Bay in 6×19 and 6×36 constructions across the working diameter range.

Fibre-core steel wire rope replaces the inner wire rope with a fibre rope core, making the assembly more flexible at the cost of crush resistance. The flexible construction suits general lifting, marine winching, agricultural tensioning and any application where the rope wraps tightly around sheaves or has to coil onto narrow drums.

Every cut from the Mossel Bay hub can be supplied with appropriate end terminations – swaged ferrules, hand splices and socketed eyes – and accompanied by a proof load test certificate where the application is regulated. The 150 km service radius covers George, Knysna, Plettenberg Bay and Oudtshoorn with same-week delivery on standard items; longer hauls are arranged on a project basis.

Steel Wire Rope FAQ

Steel Wire Rope in Mossel Bay, answered.

What's the difference between IWRC and fibre-core wire rope?

IWRC (Independent Wire Rope Core) uses a wire rope as the inner core, giving high strength, low stretch and excellent resistance to crushing – chosen for heavy lifting, drilling and high-load duties. Fibre-core construction replaces the inner wire with a fibre rope, making the assembly more flexible at the cost of crush resistance – better for tight sheaves and small drums. Afrishore Mossel Bay stocks both.

Can I order steel wire rope cut to a specific length?

Yes. Wire rope is cut to the metre at the Afrishore Mossel Bay hub. Specify the length, end terminations and any load-test requirement on the quote and the rope is prepped and tagged before collection or delivery across the Garden Route.

Do you supply wire rope with end terminations?

Yes – swaged ferrules, hand-spliced eyes, socketed eyes and threaded terminations are fitted in the Mossel Bay workshop. Choose the termination type and fitting and the assembly is delivered ready to rig.

Which standards does your wire rope comply with?

Material inspection follows ISO 4309 (Wire Rope Inspection) and slings made up from the rope are manufactured and tested to EN 13414. Proof load certificates are issued in line with the LEEA Code of Practice for the Safe Use of Lifting Equipment when the application requires it.
