Safety Harnesses & Fall Arrest · Mossel Bay
Working at height carries the highest fatality rate of any construction or industrial activity in South Africa. Afrishore Lifting & Rigging stocks full-body safety harnesses, fall-arrest lanyards, self-retracting fall arresters (SRLs) and the full range of vertical, horizontal and temporary safety lines needed to build a compliant fall-protection system. Stocked at the Mossel Bay hub with the rest of the PPE range.
Full-body harnesses are the foundation of fall-arrest PPE. Afrishore stocks harnesses with front, dorsal and lateral attachment points – sized for general construction, rope-access work and rescue / retrieval. Every harness is compliant with SANS 1080 (Industrial Safety Belts and Harnesses) and the broader EN 361 family, and is supplied with a fitting / inspection card for the user.
Lanyards convert the harness into a fall-arrest assembly. Single-leg and twin-leg shock-absorbing lanyards are stocked for general fall arrest; self-retracting lifelines (SRLs) automatically pay out and retract a steel cable or webbing, arresting a fall within centimetres rather than the metre-plus a shock-pack lanyard allows. Choice depends on fall clearance and work positioning.
Safety lines anchor the worker to the structure. Vertical lifelines run the height of a structure (tower, mast, scaffolding) with a rope-grab fall arrester that follows the user up and down. Horizontal lifelines span open work areas where the worker traverses laterally – engineered to specific load and span ratings. Temporary lifelines are deployed for one-off jobs. Afrishore Mossel Bay supplies all three, plus the descenders, ascenders and rope-access kit that round out the working-at-height inventory.

Safety Harnesses & Fall Arrest in Mossel Bay, answered.
Where can I buy safety harnesses in Mossel Bay?
Full-body safety harnesses, shock-absorbing lanyards, self-retracting fall arresters and vertical / horizontal / temporary safety lines are stocked at Afrishore Lifting & Rigging, 60 Bland Street, Mossel Bay. All compliant with SANS 1080 (Industrial Safety Belts and Harnesses) and the EN 361 family.
What's the difference between a lanyard and a self-retracting fall arrester?
A shock-absorbing lanyard has a fixed length (typically 2 m) with a deceleration pack that activates on fall – total fall distance can be 4–6 m before arrest. A self-retracting lifeline (SRL) automatically pays out as the user moves and locks within centimetres on fall – much shorter total fall distance, making them the right choice where fall clearance below the working position is limited.
Do safety harnesses need annual inspection?
Yes. Visual inspection is required before every use, and a documented inspection by a competent person at least every 6 months is industry standard. Webbing damage, stitching deterioration, hardware corrosion or any deployment of the shock-absorber pack mean the harness or lanyard is retired immediately – height-safety PPE is not field-repaired.
Can you specify a full fall-arrest system for our site?
Yes – Afrishore can spec a complete fall-arrest system (anchorage, body wear, connector, deceleration device) sized to the working-at-height risk on your site, including horizontal and vertical lifeline installations where required. Quote on application.
